Belgium postal operator bpost acquires Bubble Post

Belgium postal operator bpost has acquired Bubble Post, in a bid to expand its operations in the region.

Established in 2013, Bubble Post provides smart urban delivery services in 16 cities of Belgium.

Under smart urban delivery services, Bubble Post will combine that parcels and goods from different suppliers and deliver from the outskirts of the city by vehicles, such as cargo bikes and refrigerator trucks.

Bubble Post also offers refrigerated and frozen transport services for hospitality wholesalers, as well as involves in the delivery of prepared meals and food boxes.

The acquisition will allow bpost to expand its urban delivery solutions and enhance hybrid network to serve more customers.

The deal will also help to strengthen the operations of bpost’s subsidiary CityDepot.

According to bpost, the two companies are already having a successful partnership on the urban delivery platform in Ghent. 

With around 100 employees, Bubble Post reported a total turnover of €3.6m in 2016.

bpost CEO Koen Van Gerven said: “We also have the ambition to significantly expand our activities within the sustainable and cold logistic chain in Belgium and the Netherlands. The acquisition of Bubble Post fits in perfectly with this strategy.

bpost provides addressed and unaddressed mail services, as well as business and administrative communication solutions. It will offer mail, financial and insurance products through its dense points of sale network.
