J.B. Hunt Transport Services has agreed to acquire Special Logistics Dedicated (SLD) and its affiliated entities for $136m to expand its e-commerce delivery platform.

The transaction, subject to customary closing conditions, will be financed by the J.B. Hunt’s existing revolving credit facility, that will offer liquidity for upcoming operations.

SLD, headquartered in Houston, Texas, has over 850 pieces of equipment and 14 terminals and fulfillment centers to offer pool distribution services across North America.

The firm provides services such as dedicated transportation at both dedicated and multi-use sites, cross-docking and contract logistics, less-than-truckload product consolidation, commingled pool distribution, and a Texas-based intrastate 57’ dry van highway service.

J.B. Hunt states that the transaction will not be included in the financial result of the fiscal year 2017 but will be accretive in 2018.

J.B. Hunt president and CEO John Roberts said: “SLD’s strong customer base and strategically placed fulfillment centers position us as a top national pool distribution services provider.

“This acquisition will also allow our customers to deploy ‘big and bulky’ inventories into key markets, improving order fulfillment times for Final Mile deliveries and further enhancing our e-commerce delivery capabilities.”
