SingPost introduces new integrated suite of solutions for postal staff

LBR Staff Writer Published 13 June 2017

Singapore Post (SingPost) has introduced new integrated suite of solutions, SmartPost, to improve postal service quality and improve operational efficiency.

Featuring near-field communication (NFC), radio frequency identification (RFID), digital imaging and electronic notifications, SmartPost will provide SingPost’s postal staff with new skills and tools to enhance their operational capability and efficiency across the entire postal operation.

It will help to increase the efficiency of the postal staff ranging from collection to sorting, last mile delivery and quality assurance.

Under the first phase, SmartPost will concentrate on delivery of registered mail, SmartPac and other trackable postal items.

Postmen will be provided with smartphones that include customised postal delivery app.

Developed to be used with NFC and serialised code scanning, the app will enable postmen keep track of deliveries made and generate real-time prompts of standard operating procedures.

In addition, it will offer operational information on the go about SingPost’s various mail products and services.

SingPost Group CEO Paul Coutts said: “SmartPost is one of many innovations SingPost is using to exploit and leverage the proliferation of digital technology, this time to address traditional postal challenges and take a disruptive step forward to meet evolving expectations for faster and more flexible deliveries, especially for eCommerce.

“SmartPost has been designed to help our postal team work better and smarter, enhancing their capabilities and efficiency for the digital age. We are starting at the last mile as this is the most vital and demanding part of our business.”

Last November, SingPost opened a new regional eCommerce logistics hub at the Tampines Logistics Park, in a bid to expand its operations in the region.

The S$182m ($130m) three-storey facility will process parcels for delivery within Singapore and those to be shipped to destinations across the globe.
