UPS to buy Irish firm Nightline Logistics

LBR Staff Writer Published 04 May 2017

Supply chain management solutions provider UPS has agreed to acquire Irish firm Nightline Logistics Group for an undisclosed sum.

Nightline provides express delivery and logistics services to its customers, in addition to business-to-business services.

The acquisition will allow UPS to provide a range of both domestic and cross-border services for the customers.

Nightline’s Parcel Motel service is said to provide a virtual address, which enables customers to manage their online shopping deliveries effectively. It is similar to the Access Point Lockers service offered by the UPS.

The Smartship advanced technology of Nightline is aggregated with various options, including supply chain management, secure storage, pick pack and delivery, as well as automated ordering and reporting.

The deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval.

Currently, UPS offers small package and supply chain services to Irish customers, in addition to a full suite of ground, air and ocean freight solutions. It also provides gateway services at Dublin and Shannon airports.

UPS International president Jim Barber said: “Nightline will complement our existing services, increasing delivery density, while also adding innovative new service options.

“We also look forward to bringing UPS’s extensive healthcare, high-tech and other specialized logistics expertise to the many Irish companies that specialize in these markets.”

Nightline co-founder and CEO, John Tuohy said: “Our customers across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain will benefit from an even wider reach, enjoying direct connectivity to global export markets, and it will be an important milestone in the company’s growth into the future.”

In January this year, UPS acquired UK-based road freight company Freightex for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Dover, Freightex provides truckload, less-than-truckload, specialized and refrigerated over-the-road services to its customers.
